“An Accident” by L.S. Lowry

Aside from been filled with misery, the painting used colors that were able to depict the emotions of the artist. Using mostly monochromatic colors, the artist managed to give out the feeling of gloominess, while the red building felt like the center of attraction for the entire artwork.The art itself is meaningful and the context is clearly depicted through the painting.
For us, the mid-20th-century painter tried to show us a glimpse of what was actually happening in real life. Clearly, the painting tells a story of how the workers endure a day of work in order to make a living. This might be a common scenario to the artist, L.S. Lowry, since he took inspiration from the industrial areas located in North West England. The setting of his artworks might’ve taken place in the time of the industrial revolution, hence, the picture having grayish clouds due to smokes coming out of the factory. This is one of the most realistic artworks that we’ve seen and it was able to give us a glimpse of how workers in the mid-20th-century function.
